Exquisite Situations
An Exquisite Zoom Performance
A site-specific dance and theater performance series made on and for zoom that explores the process of “exquisite corpse.” Exquisite corpse is a surrealist game where one person creates something then passes it on to another person who adds their creation and so on till a final product is produced.
While exquisite corpse is often played within the same medium (all drawings or all texts, for example), I designed a dance and theater collaboration that used the exquisite corpse method to create several “exquisite situations” or scenarios/vignettes created for zoom.
This series consists of four parts: two performances, a film screening, and a process workshop with audience members.
This project was funded by the Gluck Fellows Program of the Arts.

Audience Choice Situations
Using online polls, the audience remixed the original 12 vignettes, creating new exquisite situations that the artists performed live on zoom.
Performance 3
A Long Situation: A Short Film
Based on a prompt I devised, Esther and Priscilla created 3-5 min videos. Then Kali joined the situation. The first part of the film is a suturing together of the videos. As part of her turn playing exquisite corpse, Kali remixed and edited the videos for the second part of the film.
